From the middle of the 1800s to the early 1900s lectores, or readers, were an integral part of the world of cigar makers. Through la lecture, or reading, communites of cigar workers were entertained, educated, and developed a sense of class solidarity.

His book "Raices de un pueblo" ("Roots of a People") speaks about the little known Afro-Bolivian population. "Solidarity in Saya" is a visual document about the Afro-Bolivian. Through music and very revealing interviews, Maya Jensen exposes us to a very interesting piece of Latin American culture.
